Gesäuse National Park in summer

The “Xeis”, as locals affectionately call the Gesäuse mountain range, with its rugged limestone peaks and impressive white water gorges, is first and foremost one thing: untamed nature. The biodiversity and untouched ecosystems of the national park create a unique area with plenty to discover. At the Weidendom adventure center, young and old can interactively explore nature’s rich offerings and learn exciting facts about the local flora and fauna together with national park rangers. Countless peaks of varying degrees of difficulty offer a wide range of hiking and climbing tours, which can be rounded off with a hearty regional snack and a cozy get-together at managed mountain huts such as the Admonter Haus or the Hesshütte. For the brave and adventurous, the raging rapids of the Enns and Salza rivers, which are the setting for adrenaline-filled rafting trips and canyoning tours, are an absolute must. Not far from the national park, however, there is also plenty on the cultural agenda: In Admont, you can not only marvel at the local Benedictine monastery with its extensive museum complex, but also the largest monastery library in the world.

Climbing in Gesäuse National Park

The imposing and steeply sloping north faces of the Hochtor group and the impressive peaks and ridges with their seemingly endless climbing opportunities have always fascinated and attracted mountaineers. Above all, it is the water-eroded, compact and rough rock structures that make our Gesäuse mountains a true climbing paradise and a particularly worthwhile experience.
