Waldviertel in summer
Located in the north-western part of Lower Austria, the Waldviertel is not only known for its famous “Waldviertler” shoes, but also – as the name suggests – for its wealth of nature. The rustic forests, moors and countless ponds transform this region into a multifaceted landscape that offers attractive adventure opportunities for nature lovers and sports enthusiasts alike. The Thayatal National Park and the Blockheide-Eibenstein Nature Park are perfect for long walks and adventurous exploration tours. The Waldviertel is also home to historical and cultural sights such as Rappottenstein Castle and the Benedictine Altenburg Abbey, which provide fascinating insights into the history of the region. Poppy cultivation is also a special feature of the Waldviertel, with the Waldviertler Graumohn being listed as a protected designation of origin. The Gressl poppy farm in Armschlag not only offers insights into poppy production, but also a wide range of poppy products to taste and buy.
Mountain biking in the Waldviertel
Hill and dale, forest and field, gravel and sand, up and down: Lower Austria has everything an excellent mountain bike region needs. On the tours, it is above all the varied landscape that makes for a unique MTB experience.
