Salzburgland Alpacas at Adnet near Salzburg
A fantastic all-round experience with alpacas awaits you in Adnet. There are farm tours and even schnapps tasting is available. You can even celebrate your birthday with these cuddly creatures. You even get to trek along the Mamorweg (Marble Way) which takes you past some very impressive stone quarries. Your guide Daniel is a great storyteller and is extremely knowledgeable about marble and alpacas. The whole tour lasts around two hours and costs 90 euros. The price is calculated for a group irrespective of the number of alpaca fans who take part.

Bergerhof Alpaca in Hallein (Salzburg)
The Bergerhof Alpaca Farm has been in operation since 2012. The farm offers visits to the alpaca enclosure or organised treks for children and adults. The treks are usually run in the Gollinger Bluntautal Valley. Animals and participants get quickly acquainted with each other and then set off on their walk. The tour lasts between two and three hours. An alpaca trek costs 29 euros per person and 25 euros each if the group consists of more than four people. There is a BBQ hut in the alpaca paddock where you can have a BBQ and a little tipple after the tour.

Alpacas from Rottenberg in Feldkirchen on the Danube (Upper Austria)
A large number of alpacas have been grazing in the Mühlviertel region since 2014 and they simply can’t wait to accompany you on a walk. They are available to do so from the middle of March. Following a short introduction, you get to walk through the idyllic conservation area in the Pesenbach Valley and then stop off for a picnic together in the forest. The group must be made up of at least seven people – adults cost 15 euros and children 10 euros.

Alpaca Freizeitalm (alpine fun farm) in Grafensulz (Lower Austria)
You can go alpaca trekking here from May until the middle of October. The activity programme includes over 20 rustic outdoor games which you can have fun on, such as an organic farm obstacle course or the Weinviertler mini golf course. Groups of six or more can take part on the tour which must be booked in advance. The charge is 10 euros for adults and 8 euros for children for a two hour trek. If you don’t have as much time to spare, you can opt for the shorter tour which costs 5 euros (adults) and 4 euros (children). There are special programmes available for larger groups and school parties.

Schöcklblick Alpacas in Kainbach near Graz (Styria)
Different trekking routes can be selected depending on availability and group size. Before each tour starts, there is an opportunity to learn more about the alpacas and how to handle them. If you have less time available, the introduction session can be reduced to 30 minutes which will give you a briefer insight in alpaca farming. If you want to actually take a stroll with the alpacas then a two to three hour tour around the farm Here the two to three hour farm tour through forests and meadows is just right (group flat rate: 75 euros for up to four people) or you can go on the Schöckl tour which takes four to five hours (group rate: 160 euros for up to four people).

Interesting facts about alpacas

Alpacas belong to the camel family and there are apparently 3.5 million of them living in Peru. They are similar to camels in that they are social animals and are happiest when they live together in a group. These adorable fluffy lawn mowers also love accompanying us humans on hiking tours!
