Nice family days at the JUFA Hotel Wien City*** in Vienna

Vienna is always worth a trip. During this years’ easter holidays we spent a few days in Vienna. We had a great night at the JUFA Hotel Wien City *** and we certainly did not regret it.

Down the road we see a beautiful yellow-painted old building, which is connected to a modern extension. As we enter the hotel, we are really surprised. A huge covered courtyard appears in front of us. Next to the reception, there is a café as well as some cozy  furniture which invites to relax. On one side of the courtyard you can already spot the restaurant.  Of course we are eager to see our room. Since our children are already a little older, we chose two rooms which are connected through a door. As in every JUFA Hotel, the rooms are very spacious with plenty of room for storage.

The idea, that the kids could sleep in the master bedroom, amazes me. Above the double bed, a bunk bed can be folded down and another child could sleep on the couch. Toilet and shower are separated which I personally consider as very pleasant. The rooms are facing a calm courtyard, which makes the rooms very quiet and we instantly feel relaxed.

For dinner a buffet with home cooking food is offered in which soups, salads and desserts are included. As a family of four, you get the whole dinner for 39€ which is a very reasonable price in my opinion. After a quiet night, we fuel ourselves for our exciting day ahead at the breakfast buffet. We especially love the “Wiener Kipferl“ which are available next to a wide range of different rolls, breads and croissants.

Now we are ready for an adventurous day and so we head off to downtown Vienna.

Our tips for sightseeing with children in Vienna

In the Hofburg you can experience the "classic Kaiserwien" up close. Visiting the silver chamber might not be the most interesting thing to do for children, but at the Sissi exhibition and in the imperial apartments the world of the Habsburgs and their lifestyle can be experienced. Audio guides make the exhibtion especially lively. For example, did you know that a 9-13 course dinner with the Emperor Franz Josef only lasted 45 minutes, or that Empress Elisabeth had gym equipment in her room? Make sure  to see Imperial Vienna!

Time Travel

A journey through the last 2000 years in Vienna? Time Travel makes it possible! The highlights are certainly the 5D cinema, the meeting with the emperor, the visit to the “Pestgrube“ and a ride on the waltz carousel. Furthermore, a bombing raid in the bomb shelter is very impressive and in the end it is time for a dreamy ride with the "Fiaker".

Museum of Illusions

Really funny and sometimes quite astounding is the Museum of Illusions. A head that seems to be lying on a table without its body or people shrunk down to dwarf size? In the  Museum of Illusions all these weird things become (seemingly) reality. Like the picture that seems to beat waves or Albert Einstein who follows us with his eyes. We thought it was really entertaining! Try to get there early in the morning, since it gets pretty busy throughout the day.

Rollercoaster Restaurant at the Prater

Ever got food served on a rollercoaster? Us neither! So we decided to try out this unique concept! Our kids are left speechless and even we, the parents, are having fun. The spotlight is certainly not put on the food itself, but on the little robots who transport the food onto the rollercoaster.  Really cool. Exclusively for you: If you get to the restaurant as a family, tell the staff the codeword "Travel Blogger Markus" and you will get a free drink for each child!

Leisurely stroll through the Schönbrunn Palace Park

Those who get tired of Vienna’s hustle and bustle, might want to take a walk through the Schönbrunn Palace Park and up to the Gloriette. From the Gloriette you get to enjoy a gorgeous view of the castle and a part of Vienna. Do not forget to get lost on the hidden paths of the palace park! This way you will get past surprising corners. We have for example discovered a dovecote, a large aviary with rare pigeon species. On the "Schlossplatz" we strolled around  the unique "Ostermarkt".

Manner factory outlet

Our last recommendation, especially for sweet tooths! Many people who visit Vienna know the famous "Manner Shop" on Stephansplatz, where you can get those delicious little sweets wrapped in pink packaging. But in the Wilheminenstraße (easily accessible by tram 2), you can find the Manner factory outlet. There, the Manner products, which have small production errors, are sold at a low price. Enjoy!
