Young visitors are welcome at the baking and crafts workshop in the parish park, and whoever is looking for a few Christmas presents should take a stroll through the arts and crafts market in the city museum. Young and old will marvel at the 14-meter high Christmas tree decorated with Swarovski crystals on the Marktplatz square, and in Maria Theresien Street, Christmas market visitors are greeted by a large number of small trees packed with tiny lights.
Lake Wolfgang Advent
Experience the unique ambience of a picturesque lake during Lake Wolfgang Advent. The villages St. Wolfgang, Strobl and St. Gilgen are festively decked out and the water reflects the many lights. You can enjoy regional arts and crafts and typical regional delicacies or take them home as a gift for your loved ones. The swimming procession of lights on Lake Wolfgang is an unforgettable high point that enhances the romantic atmosphere of this market.

Advent market on the Pürgg
Situated right at the foot of the Grimming, the village of Pürgg invites you to its Advent market on the first two weekends of Advent, which, far removed from tacky and commercialism, still bears the label “traditional“. While the 144-inhabitant village is rather neglected during the rest of the year, it awakens to life during Advent. Every year, it attracts numerous visitors and casts a magical spell over them. It is not for no reason that the Austrian writer and poet Peter Rosegger nicknamed it the “Nativity scene of Styria“.
The transformation into a Christmas cot makes the village of Pürgg shine in a romantic, idyllic light. Idyllic is also the keyword when you stroll through the Advent market. Unlike traditional Advent markets, you won’t find any ordinary huts or market stalls here. Instead, the exhibitors simply use what the village has to offer: barns, garages, sheds or even local houses are converted and festively decorated. Tradition not only plays a key role in the choice of exhibition space: with great skill and patience, the exhibitors present traditional craftsmanship that comes directly from the region and is reminiscent of long-forgotten times.
The mixture of tradition and a return to the way things used to be makes it possible to take a break from the stress of the pre-Christmas period and focus on the essentials.
