At last the cycling season is here! The temperatures are rising, the rainy days are getting fewer and the landscape is really blossoming. No matter whether you are planning a small tour or whether you want to escape everyday life for a longer time, the Mur Cycling Route (R2) provides a lot of cycling fun along its 470 km and JUFA looks after the relaxation and recovery.
The cycling route along the Mur is ideal for cyclists of all abilities and is a perfect experience for families.
Nestled in scenic landscapes, the Mur Cycling Route is the longest of the river bike
trails in Styria, and has tarmac and well-built cycle paths. In the north there are the mountains with their imposing peaks and fragrant alpine pastures which provide variety, in the south the corn fields, the typical oil pumpkins and extensive meadow landscapes, which are also not far from the vineyards.
And in between there are cities like Graz or the wine town of Leibnitz, whose urban flair is a wonderful compliment to the natural wonders.

The numerous historic cities, such as Bruck an der Mur and Bad Radkersburg, as well as the “most bicycle-friendly city of Europe”, Graz, ensure an unforgettable cultural and culinary experience. There is so much to discover in Styria!

Travel tips and traffic information
The best time to travel is from May to October, because at that time there are many sights that are available to cyclists. The cycle route is clearly visible in both directions and signposted with green signs (R2 Murradweg). Apart from a few sections, the Mur Cycling Route is also suitable for racing bikes. On sections which are not asphalted, you can easily change to the main road.
On the route from Frohnleiten to Graz it is recommended to drive on the right side (the western side) of the river Mur, to avoid the proximity to fast and main roads. With an e-bike this route is even easier to manage. Charger stations along the route ensure the power supply at any time, should you not have enough.
Go to your destination with public transport!
Using public transport is a safe way to arrive at the Mur Cycling Route and thus also to your JUFA hotel. Parallel to the Mur Cycling Route there is a railway line from Tamsweg onwards, which can be used for transfers to the starting point or for the return journey.
Muhr in Lungau or Bad Radkersburg are recommended as particularly suitable starting points with favourable traffic connections. For partial sections, almost any location along the route is suitable, depending on individual preferences.
Information on arrivals and departures can be found on the websites of Österreichischen Bundesbahnen and the Verbundlinie Steiermark. Transfers are possible between Bad Radkersburg and St. Michael / Lungau.
