The cool rock of the limestone mountain beneath the fingers, the legs tensed powerfully, the breath of the creation of the world accompanying you. Climbing is a sport that is particularly physically and mentally demanding.
In the Ausseerland Salzkammergut, enthusiasts of climbing can plan free routes or conquer well-known via ferratas. Different levels of difficulty promise variety and excitement. And the sublime view, touching the soul and restoring the feeling of connection with the world, awaits. Since 2007, adventure seekers can also ascend the world-famous Loser in Altaussee via the challenging via ferrata “Sisi.” This route is named after Empress Elisabeth, who regularly spent her summers in the Salzkammergut and allegedly drew strength from the mountain. The via ferrata stretches over a length of 400 meters and is very well secured despite its exposed location. In addition to complete climbing gear, strength and stamina are required to tackle this via ferrata, along with a helmet and via ferrata gloves.
For those particularly ambitious, there is the opportunity to tackle the shorter via ferrata “Sophie” – Sisi’s little sister, so to speak, as an additional challenge. For those who prefer a more leisurely pace, the climbing garden Gößlerwand in Grundlsee is certainly a good choice. A dreamlike view of the small village of Gößl and Lake Grundlsee – the Styrian Sea – rewards here for sporting ambition. The climbing garden is freely accessible throughout the summer.
