Pongau in winter
Pongau, which lies in the heart of Salzburg, is best known for the Gastein Valley. The spa town of Bad Gastein is a popular destination for those seeking relaxation in both summer and winter. It not only impresses with its magnificent Belle Époque architecture, but also attracts visitors with its famous thermal springs, which have been valued for their healing properties for centuries. Winter sports enthusiasts are also well catered for in Pongau. The towns of Flachau, Wagrain and St. Johann offer over 120 kilometers of pistes and state-of-the-art lifts. The Hermann-Maier World Cup course in Flachau is particularly popular and can be a challenge for the one or other challenger.

Snowshoeing in Pongau
Snowshoeing through the white Salzburger Sportwelt is just one of the winter highlights in Altenmarkt. The next snowshoe tour can also be mastered without prior knowledge and leads from snow-covered meadows to steep slopes on 42 km of snowshoe hikes to the next summit. Guided snowshoe hikes and snowshoe hire are also available in certain sports stores in Altenmarkt.

Cross-country skiing in Pongau
Cross-country skiing in one of the largest networks of trails in the Salzburger Sportwelt is a reality in Altenmarkt-Zauchensee. On around 260 kilometers of groomed trails, whether sporty skating or leisurely classic style, all cross-country skiing fans will find the right trail for them.
Highlights include the 63 km long Tauernloipe, which connects a total of six towns in the Salzburger Sportwelt.
