Gemeindealpe

The Gemeindealpe is a popular hiking region and 2 cable cars take you up to 1,626 meters. Tip for the brave: take a mountain cart ride.

Bürgeralpe

At an altitude of 1267m, the Bürgeralpe overlooks the Lower Austrian-Styrian foothills of the Alps. The view extends over the Hochschwab, the Ötscher and the Schneeberg.

The Mariazell Railway operates daily and takes you to many excursion destinations in the region, such as Gemeindealpe Mitterbach, Mariazell Bürgeralpe, Erlaufsee or Ötscher-Tormäuer Nature Park. A bike excursion can be combined with the train ride – bicycles are transported on the train.

Via Sacra - pilgrimage route

To tackle the route of the ‘Via Sacra,’ one doesn’t necessarily have to be an experienced hiker. The trail is divided into four daily stages and leads from Hinterbrühl, via Kaumberg, Lilienfeld, and Annaberg to the Basilica of Mariazell, with its impressive high altar, the touching Chapel of Grace, and the mighty organ.
